Disease-Specific Programs

Understanding the characteristics of specific types of cancer and evaluating potential therapies.

Although many cancers share fundamental features, the cancers of each organ system have unique characteristics that affect their diagnosis and treatment. The members of the disease-specific programs focus their attention on specific groups of diseases. Each program combines fundamental research activities with clinical exploration of therapies.

The four disease-specific programs at HICCC are:

  • Breast Cancer Understanding the biology, genetics and biochemistry of breast cancer, and applying this knowledge towards diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive strategies.
  • Lymphoid Development & Malignancy Studying the unique biology of B and T cells to elucidate the pathogenesis and improve the treatment of lymphoid leukemia and lymphoma.
  • Prostate Cancer Enhancing our knowledge of the pathogenesis of prostate cancer and translating it into novel diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies.
  • Neuro-oncology Translating findings in cancer biology into new therapies for patients with primary brain tumors.
