The Proteomics Shared Resource makes available mass-spectometry-based proteomic tools to cancer researchers combined with a staff that offers a deep level of expertise in all the techniques of protein chemistry.

The main focus of the facility is targeted proteomics in which mass spectrometry is used to identify interacting partners in protein complexes that have been purified by immunoprecipitation, affinity tags, or other methods. The facility also routinely provides structural confirmation of expressed proteins and protein fragments for structural biologists.

Specific services use state-of-the-art experimental strategies for the following:

  • Identification of proteins from gel bands or spots by MALDI-TOF and ESI-LC-MS/MS
  • Quantitative proteomic profiling using isotopic labels
  • Identification of protein components within protein complexes
  • Identification of phosphorylation sites and other covalent protein modifications
  • Mass determination of expressed and purified proteins for structural biology studies

The facility staff has extensive expertise in all mass spectrometric techniques and encourages researchers to contact us prior to submission of samples to discuss preparation of samples, the best method of analysis, and the type of information they can expect to obtain from mass spectrometry.
